A Step by Step Guide to your Sydney Granny Flat Project
Step 1: Inspiration, Creativity and Consultation
The first step towards creating your dream space is to work out your own requirements in terms of space, style and function and discuss these with our Sydney granny flat specialists. We have a range of architecturally designed ready-to-build options for one, two or three-bedroom granny flats. Alternatively, you can go for a Home Plus One Custom Designed flat that’s tailor-made to your specifications.
Step 2: Location Certification and Design Quote
In order to confirm that we can build in your desired location, our staff will need to organise some local certification and surveying to check that there are no council limitations or waste issues on the site. Once the site gets the go ahead, we can finalise the design based on the available dimensions and your budget. We will then provide you with a final quote for your build.
Step 3: Showroom Visit and Approval
Now you’re ready for the really fun part – visiting our showroom to choose all of your fixtures, fittings and finishes! Choosing granny flat specialists like Home Plus One for your build means we already have everything you need to complete your flat on show in our display room. There’s no need for time-consuming shopping across different locations! As well as this, our professional team will lodge all the necessary planning paperwork on your behalf so all you need to do is sit back and wait for approval.
Step 4: Construction
Construction will begin with earthworks, plumbing, foundations, frames, windows and external dressing. Once the main structure is in place, we move inside for phase two, which involves insulation, plaster boarding, tiling and carpeting according to your plans.
At this point, your new granny flat has taken shape and you’re close to seeing the finished product! All that’s left in phase three is the interior fit out such as installing wardrobes and shower screens, completing the electrics and installing appliances before moving back outside for final touches to the landscaping.
Step 5: Get Your New Keys
This is the handover stage where you’ll receive your ‘occupation certificate’. After a walk-through to make sure your standards have been met, the flat is all yours, ready to be lived in.
Step 6: Maintenance Inspection
Three months after the initial handover, we’ll be in touch to see how you’ve been enjoying your granny flat and check if any maintenance is needed.
